Developing sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) using renewable energy and captured CO2

FjordPtX Aalborg

Fjordptx Web

FjordPtX is a Danish Power-to-X project under development deploying industrial use of electrolysis technology, in the range of 350-450 megawatt, to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Powered by renewable energy, FjordPtX will produce eSAF that will lead to the long-term decarbonization of the aviation industry. In addition, the project will produce the end product naphtha.

The plant is expected to cover 20 ha, corresponding to 26 football fields
FjordPtX represents a capital investment of ~ 2-2,5 billion EUR
The excess heat from the plant will provide emission-free district heating to approximately 11,000 households in Aalborg municipality
FjordPtX is expected to generate up to 200 permanent jobs
FjordPtX will recycle 330,000 tons of CO2 annually primarily from the waste incineration at Nordværk, corresponding to the CO2 emissions of 17,000 Danish households
FjordPtX will produce up to 90,000 tons of SAF annually, and will be able to supply up to ~250% of the fuel consumption for Danish domestic flights.
